These conditions arise when the width of an excavation, cutting or embankment is restricted by the conditions of ownership, use of the structure or economy. For example, in construction of railways or roads, the easement width of the track is fixed and the cutting or embankment must be contained within that width. Likewise, the basement walls of buildings must be located with the party lines of the property and contain the soil around the basement.
These are those whose weight counters the thrust of the land. Due to their large size, they suffer practically no flection efforts, so they are not usually reinforced.
Under these conditions, the most adequate solution is the gabion wall. Gabion structures provide a wide field of applications in the environment and stabilise land.
